Information on e-mail sent from counterfeit SCHOOLTV.com e-mail addresses To: all SCHOOLTV.com visitors Wednesday, June 29, 2005 It has come to our attention that certain e-mail mass mailers (spammers) have used counterfeit SCHOOLTV.com e-mail addresses in the "from" line of their e-mails. Their intent is clear - to legitimize their otherwise shady e-mail practices. This is truly an unauthorized, counterfeit use of SCHOOLTV.com e-mail addresses and the SCHOOLTV.com name. It has nothing to do with our efforts. Our advice is that you delete these e-mails immediately, and do not open any attached files. We contacted the technical support division of our web-site hosting company. A technician explained that spammers use e-mail programs that allow them to type any address in the "From" line of an e-mail. For example, a spammer wishing to sell software might type "sales@microsoft.com" in the "From" line of an e-mail, even though the sender is not affiliated with Microsoft in any way. In other words, this is a deceptive, dishonest practice designed to offer validity to an otherwise useless e-mail. The technician informed us that there was really no way to stop it, and our best bet was to inform our SCHOOLTV.com visitors about our e-mail policies.
You can imagine our surprise when we receive e-mails from joe@schooltv.com or accounting@schooltv.com. Those e-mail addresses don't even exist! That about covers it. We appreciate your patience.
